What is the Art of the City Scholarship Program?
Established in 2021, the Art of the City Scholarship seeks to encourage and empower local youth artists of all disciplines to submit an original piece of art around the year’s chosen theme. We’re proud to support local White Rock & South Surrey students, offering the scholarship to the graduating classes of Semiahmoo Secondary, Earl Marriott Secondary, Elgin Park Secondary, Grandview Heights Secondary.
Who is eligible to apply for the scholarship?
The Art of the City Scholarship is now open to grade 12 students from Semiahmoo Secondary, Earl Marriott Secondary, Elgin Park Secondary, Grandview Heights Secondary. Learn more details at artofthecity.ca/scholarship
When does the application open?
The Art of the City Scholarship runs annually, with submissions opening in early November and closing at the end of April. Scholarship recipients are typically announced via social media and at each participating high school’s commencement ceremonies, around June. Learn more details at artofthecity.ca/scholarship
When will I receive my scholarship funds and award?
Scholarship recipients are typically announced via social media and at each participating high school’s commencement ceremonies, around June. At the commencement ceremony, Gold recipients receive a trophy & certificate, and Silver recipients receive a certificate. After the commencement ceremony, an Art of the City Studio team member will reach out to arrange funds directly to recipients.
How can I nominate my school to be included in the scholarship?

What is the Art of the City Society?
The Art of the City Society encourages past scholarship participants to reconnect, share their creative journeys, and stay engaged with the Art of the City community. It’s a space to celebrate alumni achievements, spotlight creative work, and foster meaningful connections with fellow artists, designers, and creatives.
Being a part of the Art of the City Society, you become part of a growing collective that values creativity, community, and connection — a place to stay involved, be inspired, and grow together.

Explore the Annual Alumni Challenge
Available to Art of the City Society members, the annual alumni challenge mirrors the annual Art of the City Scholarship theme. Alumni from past scholarship years are eligible to enter the annual challenge to win one of 3 x $500 awards, with submissions opening in November and closing at the end of April each year.
Alumni award recipients will be announced alongside Art of the City Scholarship recipients in early June, and an Art of the City Studio team member will reach out to arrange funds directly to recipients. Learn more about the annual Alumni challenge award: artofthecity.ca/society

Art of the City Gallery
The Art of the City Gallery is now open by appointment! How will my artwork be used?
With your permission, your artwork may be shared on the Art of the City website and featured on our Instagram to help showcase your work and creative journey. Selected pieces may also be displayed in the Art of the City Gallery, located at Verve in White Rock, which is open by appointment. I did not participate in a past scholarship year, can I apply for a alumni design challenge?
At this time, the annual alumni challenge is only open to Scholarship alumni (this includes all recipients and participants). Alumni submitting toward the annual challenge will be requested to confirm which scholarship year they participated in along with which high school they graduated from to confirm eligibility for the annual alumni challenge.
Students from eligible high schools who did not submit toward the annual scholarship are not eligible for the annual alumni challenge, but may be eligible for future open calls for submissions.
